I would say that practically everyone who has suffered from hemorrhoids has at some point asked the question of whether or not the condition can be treated in such a way so that it goes away permanently. The answer you got will of course depend on who you actually spoke to. This is primarily because there are several different approaches.

Western Medicine

Generally speaking, western doctors or those practicing western medicine will usually attempt to not only eradicate the condition altogether, but they will also attempt to tackle the actual cause of the problem. In most cases patients will be given a combination of creams, tablets, and suppositories. In the vast majority of cases, you'll also be advised to start including more fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet, together with plenty of water.

Generally speaking, the treatment of hemorrhoids is based primarily on learning how to manage the condition, although in very severe cases, surgery may be recommended.

The most common drugs used for treating hemorrhoids include:

  • Hydrocortisone
  • Zinc Oxide
  • Arnica
  • Astringents
Eastern Medicine

In most Eastern cultures, ailments are usually treated by addressing the patient as a whole, rather than only focusing on the problem. Essentially, this is because these cultures believe that if you can correct imbalances within the body it will be able to carry out its own repairs.

If for example you went to get treatment from a Chinese doctor who practices Chinese medicine, they would more than likely tell you that you need to make significant changes to your diet. Not only would you have to change what you eat and how you eat, but you'd even have make changes to change when you eat. The same applies with regards to the liquids you drink, In that you'd have to change what you drink, when you drink, and even the temperatures of your drinks.

This is essentially because the Chinese believe that one should drink something warm with a meal and again once you've finished your meal so that it can help to move the food through your system. In fact, the more you think about this, the more sense it makes, because after all, a lack of fiber and constipation are largely to blame for the onset of hemorrhoids.
The most common treatments will usually involve concoctions made up of various herbs and root extracts.

Treating Hemorrhoids with Homeopathic Medicine

As you may well already know, homeopathic medicine is based on the principle of treating "like with like". In other words, you'll more often than not be given one or more compounds which under normal circumstances would result in a specific symptom if given to a healthy person. However, when administered to an unhealthy person, it is believed that these compounds help to stimulate the body's healing ability.

Interestingly enough, there are many instances where homeopathic medicine has proven to be the only thing that works for someone. Of course it has the added advantage, in that is generally considered to be safe.

The most commonly used ingredients are:
  • Paeonia officialis
  • Arnica
  • Horse Chestnut (leaves and seeds)
Aromatherapy

Unfortunately for aromatherapy has been on the receiving end of bad press, and as a result, many people see it as being the reserve of those who are slightly crazy. However, contrary to what you may believe, many people have managed to successfully rid themselves of hemorrhoids by making use of aromatherapy.
In case you're skeptical as to whether or not the body is able to benefit from you inhaling certain compounds, perhaps you should bear in mind that people can become high by sniffing certain substances. What I'm trying to say is that if a person can experience a physical response from sniffing glue, then it should also be possible to achieve a physical response when sniffing certain other compounds.

However, when aromatherapy is used for treating hemorrhoids, it usually involves having to apply one or more diluted essential oils directly to the affected area.

The most commonly used oil nowadays is rose geranium oil.
